Whale Watching Kayak Tours

SINGLE
TANDEM

Kayak out from La Jolla Shores and experience whale watching like never before! Watch these magnificent creatures as they migrate between Alaska and the birthing grounds in Baja, Mexico.

Our location in La Jolla Shores is close to the whales’ migration path. Just by paddling about a mile or slightly more off-shore, we can catch these incredible animals, and even other marine mammals such as seals, sea lions, and dolphins!

There is no better way of watching the migration of whales than from a kayak as it brings us much closer to these magnificent creatures. Truly, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Cost:  $60 (single kayaks) or $55 per person tandem kayaks. Wetsuits are also provided, giving you a $10 savings!

What is Provided: Kayaks, paddles, wetsuits, life jackets, and a guide. We use stable, easy-to-paddle sit-on-top kayaks. Kayaking experience is not a requirement. Warm drinks are also provided after the paddle.Whale Watching Tours by Kayak Warm drinks and snacks are provided after the paddle.

Tour is about 3 hours long.

What to Bring: Swim suit or similar shorts/top to wear under wet suit, hat, sunscreen. Optional: shoes that can get wet (Tevas, tennis shoes, 'river shoes' or flip flops). Bring a 'leash' for valuable glasses, or purchase one from our shop. You can also leave a towel and some dry clothes at our shop to use after the activity. Ages and Participant Requirements: Ages 8 and up, must be able to swim.

What to Expect Kayaking is a physical water activity, so expect to get a bit wet. To better prepare you for this, we provide wet suits and booties. The pace is not strenuous but expect to do some paddling! And even though this is an active tour, no experience with kayaking is required. Here are driving directions and a map to our shop.

Start Location: We meet at our La Jolla Shores shop, where you will check in, sign waivers, etc. There are NO public restrooms in our shop, but there are new public bathrooms located at the beach. At the shop, we will outfit you with a wetsuit, lifejacket, and paddle, as well as provide a brief paddle instruction and safety talk. You will walk down to the end of the street with your guide (wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed) where we launch to the water and begin our activity.
For parking, the spots marked “90 minute” parking is NOT RECOMMENDED as there isn’t enough time, however, we do have free parking available on the side streets. Click here for driving directions and a map to our shop.
